So You Want to Hot Rod Your Super 73  – Part 2 – Pros and Cons

"I did everything by the seat of my pants. That's why I got hurt so much."Evil Knievel

SO YOU WANT TO HOT ROD YOUR E-BIKE

Part 2: The Real Talk About Going Fast

After all, this is America. Or ‘merica. You are free to say it either way.  You are free to hot rod your electric bike, make it an “out of class electric vehicle” and push it as fast as you can until the frame screams for mercy.

In Part 1, we covered the legal stuff. Here's the reality: the rules aren't really being enforced yet. Every week there's a new 3000W+ bike hitting the market. You probably don't care about regulations anyway - you just want to GO FAST.

Let's be honest - you're going to ride that beast on public roads, not just "private property." The manufacturers can say "off-road only" all they want, but we both know where these bikes really get ridden.

So let's break down what you're really signing up for.

THE PROS: Why Fast E-Bikes Are Addictive

🚀 Pure Speed Rush

Hitting 40+ mph on what looks like a bicycle is an insane adrenaline hit. Having that stealth acceleration to blow past traffic and leave regular bikes in the dust? Priceless.

Real Transportation Power

Even stock e-bikes at 20-28mph beat cars for most trips. But with our 5000W motor kits hitting 59+ mph, you've got legitimate motorcycle-level transport. Longer commutes become possible, and you'll actually look forward to riding.

🏃 Emergency Acceleration

Like a passing gear in a car - when you need to get out of trouble fast, that extra power can save your life. Car blocking the bike lane? You're around it in seconds.

THE CONS: What Nobody Talks About

💀 Physics Doesn't Care About Your Feelings

"When I hit that pavement at 70 or 80 mph those suits just ripped." – Evel Knievel

The math is brutal: At 30mph you have 4x the kinetic energy of 15mph. At 60mph? 16x the energy. Your body absorbs all of it when things go wrong.

The kinetic energy of a moving object increases in proportion to the square of the speed.

Bottom line: If you're building with our motor kits, you're building a motorcycle. Dress like it. Ditch the skateboard helmet and get DOT-rated gear.

If you are on a fast bike, technically and legally speaking, you’re on a motorbike. You should dress accordingly. Your skateboard helmet won’t cut it. Get a DOT helmet and some gloves. Maybe even a crash jacket. Take a little time and watch this free Youtube video series about motorcycle safety so you have some strategies in mind when you are on the road.

🔧 Your Frame Wasn't Built for This

E-bike frames are tested for 28mph max. You're strapping 3000-5000W of fury to a bicycle frame. Expect things to break - forks, wheels, whatever's weakest goes first.

Pro tip: When you order our motor kit, budget for frame reinforcement and heavy-duty brakes. You'll need them.

💸 It's an Expensive Addiction

Our 5000W kit is just the beginning. You'll want:

  • Quad-piston brakes (because stopping matters)
  • Stronger headlight (don't outrun your vision)
  • DOT helmet and gear
  • Frame upgrades
  • Backup parts (because stuff breaks)

Budget $2000+ total for a proper build. When that motor eventually smokes (and it might), how's your wallet going to feel?

🔥 Fire Risk is Real

Lithium battery fires are no joke. Do you know how to put one out? Here's a hint: NOT with water. Water makes lithium fires worse and creates hydrogen gas (which explodes).  Don’t believe me? Watch this.

If your 72V battery catches fire on the road, abandon it and call the fire department. Only Class D extinguishers with copper powder work on big lithium fires, and they cost $600-1000. (If you are running a shop with lithium batteries, you need one. Ask your insurance agent about deals they can get you.)

⚖️ Legal and Social Reality

Going 40mph+ on quiet bike paths around pedestrians and cyclists creates conflict. And when you hurt someone on an unregistered "motorcycle," your insurance won't cover you. You're legally and financially exposed.

🔄 No Warranty, No Mercy

Obviously, installing our 5000W motor voids everything. When stuff breaks (and it will), you're fixing it yourself.

THE BOTTOM LINE

We listed more cons than pros, but we know it won't stop you. The speed addiction is real, and we're here for it.

Our 3000-5000W motor kits will give you the power you crave - up to 59mph with the right setup. But don't do it "by the seat of your pants" like Evel Knievel. Be smart about it.

What we're really selling: The ability to build something absolutely mental that'll make every ride an adventure. Just do it right.

Ready to Build Something Insane?
